Description:

The ELEVATE Turbo Intake Pipe is engineered to provide maximum power and torque for the Volvo T5 engine. This is achieved by increasing both flow and capacity of the pipe between the MAF sensor and the turbocharger. The factory plastic intake pipe necks down to just 2.16” (55mm) and integrates a resonator section that creates turbulence and restricts flow. Using mandrel bent, 3” (76mm) aluminum construction, our design allows greater and unrestricted air flow into the turbo, yielding more power and quicker turbo response. Our pipe has an increased internal volume of 41% over the factory pipe. A bright silver thermal coating reflects heat and helps keep the intake charge as cool. The black plastic factory pipe absorbs under hood heat, creating a loss in power. All factory vacuum lines are maintained and are fastened to the Turbo Intake Pipe using the factory quick-connect fittings. High quality 4-ply silicone hoses (choice of Black, Blue or Red) and clamp are included to complete the installation. The Turbo Intake Pipe installs in about 30 minutes and includes easy to follow instructions.

Why not offer a complete “air intake system”?
We have evaluated all current “air intake” systems for the Volvo T5 and find several faults in design, function, and claims.

ECM Cooling. The ECM (Electronic Control Module) is the computer that controls all engine management functions. In stock trim, the ECM is mounted to the factory air box. The back side of the ECM is finned for cooling, and these fins protrude through a window in the air box to expose it to filtered air being drawn into the engine. A simple, effective, ingenious design by the factory to cool the ECM. Any aftermarket “system” that deletes the factory air box will jeopardize the life of the ECM due to improper cooling. The ECM gets beyond hot to the touch when operating, and we are aware of several ECM’s that have failed due to insufficient cooling as a result of being relocated from the factory air box. A heat damaged ECM requires replacement and reprogramming by a dealership—a $1,700.00+ cost.

MAF Sensor Contamination. The MAF Sensor (Mass Air Flow) is the component which reads how much air is being drawn into the engine, and then relays that information to the ECM to match the proper amount of fuel to match the air volume. The MAF Sensor is a very sensitive and precise sensor. When an oiled-type aftermarket air filter is used, oil is drawn through the filter and into the intake system. This oil collects on the MAF Sensor, which will start to give an inaccurate reading, causing poor performance and reduced mileage. Eventually, the MAF Sensor will fail, causing a check engine light and required replacement of the MAF Sensor.

Power gains. Our research has found the factory air intake box to not be a point of significant restriction. Some companies simply make products for the sake of having something to sell to make more money. We have evaluated the increased power claims of some of the systems on the market and find them to be less than honest.
